The Yukos Foundations

A resource for background information on our continuing fight to protect Yukos assets and our efforts to distribute funds to our stakeholders.

The Yukos Foundations

were formed in 2005 to ensure that Yukos Oil Company assets outside Russia would be protected by non-Russian courts. Two years earlier, the Russian Federation started manipulating Russian courts by attacking Yukos and trying to seize its assets. The Foundations are designed to assure all shareholders that if Russian authorities tried to expropriate international assets, they could defend the illegal expropriation outside of the Russian court system in a fair legal venue. Set up in the Netherlands, the Foundations provide an additional level of protection against Russian actions. The Yukos Foundations are Dutch legal entities: the Stichting Administratiekantoor Financial Performance Holdings and the Stichting Administratiekantoor Yukos International.

Yukos Background

After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, Russia found itself with a weak and inexperienced central government in charge of a huge country. The national economy was in the hands of a cabal of managers running powerful state-owned enterprises. These managers were unwilling to undertake any desperately needed reforms.
